After settling on six window models, the ongoing theme was Old School Horror Movies. The group I was assigned to was Carrie. With this being our first large scale window display ever (big step from the interior windows), there wasn’t much fear only excitement. The Carrie window display we sketched out recreated the iconic scene when the pig blood was dropped on her head during prom. This is the turning point in the movie in which she reveals her powers to everyone, completely blacking out from pure anger.
To begin this process we created a thumbnail sketch in which showed the basic ideas of how we were going to approach this project. The mood board and redesigned model came afterwards. We collected all the different materials needed to create the wooden floor (to represent the stage), had vinyl on our backgrounds, and had to find the accessories that made our mannequin look as identical as possible.
The first project I began was on the floor while my other group members took hold of the backgrounds. I had to do trial and error samples of golden colors that would perfectly resemble a gym floor. Going to Michaels, I discovered a really cool tool that created wood prints therefore it allowed me to deal with each panel much faster. This window mainly revolved around details after the main points were completed such as the telekinetic powers. We took old school vinyls discs, cut them up, and hung it with fish wire along with many other items (flowers, the microphone, and plastic pieces). My favorite part of this project was pouring the red paint all over the mannequin to reveal the “pig blood” from the movie.
